THIS IS ME IS AN INSPIRATIONAL MEN’S STYLE JOURNAL WITH A DISTINCTIVE EDITORIAL POINT-OF-VIEW INTENDED TO SPARK CONVERSATION AND STIR THE CREATIVE JUICES THAT SO MANY OF US CRAVE. WE SET OUT TO CURATE A REFINED ARSENAL OF IMAGERY TO DO JUST THAT – IGNITE IMAGINATION AND MAGIC, ALLOWING US TO RETHINK MEN’S STYLE. THE IDEA OF THIS IS ME

AS WITH ALL GREAT IDEAS, IT BEGAN AS A CONVERSATION BETWEEN FRIENDS. THIS IS ME IS A PRODUCT OF THAT BEAUTIFULLY MYSTERIOUS PROCESS OF NOTIONS BECOMING REALITY AND PRESENTED TO A WORLD READY TO EMBRACE THEM. THE NEED WAS SIMPLE. CLEAR. OBVIOUS. AN INSPIRATIONAL MEN’S STYLE JOURNAL WITH DISTINCTIVE EDITORIAL POINT-OF-VIEW THAT WOULD SPARK CONVERSATION AND STIR THE CREATIVE JUICES THAT SO MANY OF US CRAVE. WE SET OUT TO CURATE A REFINED ARSENAL OF IMAGERY TO DO JUST THAT – IGNITE DIALOGUE, IMAGINATION AND MAGIC.

THE TWIST IS, THIS IS ME HAS NO PRODUCT AFFILIATION OR ADVERTISING WITHIN ITS PAGES. WE WANT EVERYONE TO HAVE THE FREEDOM TO ENJOY THE JOURNAL REGARDLESS OF WHICHEVER PRODUCTS THEY MAY ENDORSE. WE BELIEVE THAT BEAUTY OF EDITORIAL IMAGERY IS THAT IT ALLOWS YOU TO GET LOST IN THE POTENTIAL, TO DISCOVER YOUR OWN “WHAT IF”. OUR GOAL IS SIMPLY TO INSPIRE, NURTURE AND APPLAUD THE UNIQUE CREATIVITY AND BRILLIANCE WITHIN ALL OF US.  A CELEBRATION OF THE GUT WITH GREAT STYLE – AN INFLUENCE AMONGST HIS PEERS, A GUY WITH A STRONG SENSE OF HIS INDIVIDUALITY – THIS IS ME IS A FRESH APPROACH TO MEN’S GROOMING. THIS IS HIM

We had the distinct honor of working with WHYRED on our shoots for this edition. of This Is Me. Finding the right styling story to accompany brilliant grooming ins’t as easy as one might think.

But, when you have such a strong brand as WHYRED behind you to help create interesting statements of individuality, it makes anything possible!

With a distinct approach to fashion, WHYRED embodies the Scandinavian aesthetic we fell in love with. Under the helm of Roland Hjort, WHYRED’s creative director and founder, the brand has enjoyed extreme success as it navigates the artisic waters of fashion, culture and music to deliver exquisite heritage pieces and clever trend selections. It is always inspiring to get a glimpse into the mind of the creative spirit and were able to do just that.

Here are our 10 Questions for Roland Hjort.

TIM: When (and how) did you become a designer?
ROLAND: I studied pattern making and men’s tailoring at an early age in school. I went on to study design in Paris in 1985 and graduated in 1990 and been working as a designer ever since.

TIM: What is your personal relationship with fashion?
ROLAND: I have been active in the fashion world on one way or another since 1985, being inspired and fulfilled each and every day. I can’t imagine my life any other way.

TIM: Why do you think Scandinavian men’s fashion is so successful internationally?
ROLAND: The Scandinavian style is clean and minimalistic yet still playful, wich I think resonates with a lot of men. And top of that, I think it’s a great value for money.

TIM: How do you see men’s fashion evolving in the future?
ROLAND: I hope men discover freedom and independence allowing them to make a more personal statement.

TIM: What are the key elements to being “successful” with one’s own style?
ROLAND: Start small, hold to your idea and be consistent.

TIM: Where does the name WHYRED some from?
ROLAND: From my grandfather (Exet) in a radio interview in 1950. He was a famous painter in Sweden., the interviewer asked my grandfather what his favorite color was to which my grandfather replied “red”. The interview asked ” why red”? My grandfather said “blue then!”

TIM: What do you wish men would dare to wear?
ROLAND: I would like to see more personality in what men wear – be more Indie! Think outside the box!

TIM: Who is your style icon?
ROLAND: David Bowie. He has been my style icon since I was a kid. It started when I saw him in the Mick Rock Video in ’73 when he was Ziggy Stardust singing “Life on Mars” wearing a light-green suit and his carrot-colored hair. It blew my mind!

TIM: What inspires you when creating a new collection?
ROLAND: Music has always been my biggest inspiration si I attend a lot of concerts and I love the atmosphere of the Indie music world.

TIM: What is the biggest style mistake men make?
ROLAND: Dare to make a mistake – be personal about your style.
