Dolores Haze

WHYRED x Forumist

Dolores Haze has ever since the start been like a tornado sweeping over the music scene challenging all that is comfortable, boring and neat. The band has established an uncompromising sound early on together with an exceptional presence on stage filled with energy and a mercyless power and rage.

People all around the world, including Iggy Pop, fell completely head over heels in love with the swedish band Dolores Haze after the release of their debut album The Haze Is Forever in 2015. And it’s not hard to understand why the band’s debut album dazzled the listeners, the Stockholm based band has an aura filled with attitude and the courage to be daring and different in their expression. Just listen to their song Crazy About Me from their debut album that opens up with Nicki S Dar also known as Groovy Nickz, screaming “Fuck You” in the beginning of the song followed by angry guitars and beating drums.

Their appearance and spirit makes you want to draw parallels with the rockstars and experimental glam of the 70’s. They are not just musically innovative but does also not fear when it comes to experimenting with clothes and fashion in a brilliant manner, mixing styles and material landing in an entirely unique expression. Their excellent eye for the visual aspects of artistry can also be found in their music videos that often offers the viewer a small cinematic story that adds new visual dimensions to their tunes.

Since the release of their latest single in the spring of 2017 it has been a bit quiet around the band, but all good things come to the one who waits. Dolores Haze is ready for a brand new chapter in their music career, together with a whole new sound they make clear that they are more than ready to continue conquering the music scene. When listening to their upcoming tune Final Show you quickly notice that the rumours about their new sound are true. The band dares to slow down and take a step in a new direction, showing a new side of their artistry. It’s less angry punk and more pop but at the same time the song is unwilling to be labeled and put into different genres, just like most of their music. The same vibe can be found on another of their upcoming tracks called Play Hard Fuck Hard Love Hard where Dolores Haze really show that they have grown and developed as musicians and melody makers since the start of their career. The listener meets a softer and a bit more mellow soundscape that stays with you long after you’ve pressed play.

After listening to some of their songs that is yet to be released you can easily say that 2018 is going to be an exciting year for Dolores Haze. Their upcoming tunes cements their unwillingness to stagnate and to become too comfortable in their sound. Instead they show the rest of us how it’s done, experimenting with new soundscapes and moods, ignoring genre-labels. And even if it sounds different, their songs are still filled with that special Dolores Haze fiery artery.
