Ruby Empress

Whyred x The Forumist

Ruby Empress is free, wild and untamed. The band seems to operate without any boundaries and their creative influences are floating, independent and driven by a passion for the unique that is not only to be found in music, but also photography, fashion, art and film.

Ruby Empress has that certain vibe that one so seldom come across, with their unmistakable talent for melodies, Tom Serner’s strong and yet sensitive voice that seems to convey even the smallest nuances of their lyrics and their sense for memorable live performances the band contributes with something new and filled with shimmering energy to the music scene.

The band makes one draw parallels to the style of the glam rockers of the 70’s, psychedelic grooves, glittering disco dance floors and to the extravagante visitors of Warhol’s Studio 54 that Ruby Empress so passionately speaks about and celebrates. They take the concept of making music and performing very seriously but does at the same time not stagnate in their role as musicians, allowing other kinds of creative expressions to merge into something special that can be seen on stage as well as when you listen to their tunes.

Their soundscape has, since their latest release, the three-piece EP Mind Games Sessionsbased on the tragic story of the Andy Warhol superstar Andrea Feldman, been taking a turn to a darker and deeper soundscape that occasionally flirts with cinematic atmospheres and atmospheric vibes. Showing of new sides of the band and their musical palette, giving the listeners the impression that there is still much more to be discovered than just their celebrated debut Empressionism.

While listening to a little taste of the tunes that are yet to be released one quickly realises that the band seems to be on a never ending quest of exploring where their musical boundaries lies. This time around Ruby Empress’s soundscape takes on a heavier costume, creating that certain atmosphere that we already know since before as well as mixing it up with new influences filled with sleek pop melodies and thundering guitars. The result of their hard work will be presented on an album called Festina Lente that will be released later during the year, an album that surely will show off why Ruby Empress is something absolutely extraordinary.
