ANIARA INSPIRED PRINTS
The Whyred AW17 collection has been inspired by Aniara, a science-fiction poem written by the Swedish Nobel Prize laureate Harry Martinsson in 1956. It was about a spaceship of the same name. As well as the literary work itself, the sets created by the renowned Swedish artist Sven X:et Erixon for the 1959 production of Aniara. Erixon is also the grandfather of Whyred’s creative director Roland Hjort.
THE WHYRED RESULT
Erixsons original drawings have now been used for prints that appear on some of the pieces. It injects a kind of playfulness into the clothes and bringing interesting new elements to other parts of the design.
It has become a timeless aesthetic, with a soft rebellion lingering beneath the stylish surface. And a core part of Whyred’s spirit and mission is to create wearable essentials and then present them with an edge that makes them unforgettable.
